Celebrate “Banned Books” at Space Cowboy Reading tonight in Joshua Tree

Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. It was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, stores and libraries. Banned Books Week will be celebrated here in the high desert at our local Space Cowboy Books in Joshua Tree this Sunday, September 18th.

The Desert Split Open Mic reading series will be hosting their Banned Books event at Space Cowboy Books this Sunday from 5-7pm, as part of the American Library Association’s Banned Books Week.

Read an excerpt on the open mic from your own favorite banned book from home, or choose from the stack of challenged titles they’ll have on hand.

Sign up in person at 5pm to participate in this free event, or just show up to listen— all are welcomed at Space Cowboy Books, located at 61871 29 Palms Hwy, Joshua Tree.
