The Yucca Valley Planning Commission reviewed a request to increase the size of currently allowed occupants and vehicles at a large short-term vacation rental at Tecuya Way. After hearing public comments, the Commissioners took a long view on the regulations now and in the future.
The Commissioners reviewed a permit to expand the number of occupants, vehicles, and daytime guests at a large home in the Shatin Heights area of Yucca Valley. After a lengthy discussion and public comment, the commissioners explored the ramifications of such a request on future vacation rental permits for large houses and what the change might mean for the recently adopted temporary regulations.
The Shatin Heights Home Owners Association (HOA) requires owners to email guest names, vehicles, and proof of vehicle insurance. The commissioners agreed to modified terms of two people per bedroom, four vehicles, and 12 daytime guests. The requirements are cameras on the property, following Yucca Valley STVR rules, and any property additions, like a pool or outside decks, will require additional permitting. Vice-Chair Stoker suggested the committee consider establishing requirements for larger homes and indicated to the President of the HOA, Bjorn Bjornsson, that the HMO might ask for additional fees to cover road maintenance.
In other business, Deputy Town Manager Shane Stueckle announced a public hearing in July on mural regulations. Lastly, Stueckle said that take permits are prohibited as the Fish and Wildlife Commission took no action on listing the western Joshua tree and probably wouldn’t for nine months to a year. Stueckle added that staff would likely go to the Town Council with suggestions to discuss possible changes for allowing ground-breaking activities to take place on private or public property. Staff will continue to communicate with the Fish and Wildlife Commission.
