A suspected DUI was the cause of a large scale power outtage in Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley on Saturday night (August 5).

The Sheriff’s office confirmed that the outtage, which left thousands without power, was caused by a three-vehicle collision near Yucca Mesa Road and Buena Vista in Yucca Mesa. The collision involved a utility pole and took out power lines.

The Sheriff’s Office said that there were likely injuries, as a hospital was contacted as part of the incident, but was unable to provide further details. The collision is being investigated as a DUI.

A representative of Southern California Edison confirmed that the outtage occured at 10:49 p.m. on Saturday night. The outtage initially impacted 1651 customers in Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree including Z1077’s headquarters. Power was fully restored by 3 a.m. Sunday morning (August 6).
