Four developed campgrounds in the neighboring public lands to the north are slated for a fee increase, and the Mojave National Preserve wants to consider your comments before making the change permanent. This would be the first fee increase in 13 years, and along with a bump in price the preserve aims to move its campground reservation system for the four sites to recreation.gov – the website that most other federal public lands and parks use for their campsites.
The Preserve said in their press release that the proposed fee changes are per campground:
- Hole In the Wall campground would double from $12 to $25 dollars a night
- Mid Hills would see a bump from $12 to $20
- The larger Group and Equestrian campgrounds would see an increase from $20 to $35 per night.
They say that the proposed fee increases will allow the preserve to invest in areas that will improve visitor experiences. Possible improvements include better accessibility, replacing old and busted picnic tables, and keeping dust down at the campgrounds. Additional revenue will help fund facility maintenance, future campground improvement projects, and increased costs associated with campground operations. At least 80% of fees that the park charges for camping provide direct visitor services.
