CALTRANS SAYS MEMORIAL DAY DRIVING CONDITIONS WILL BE DIFFERENT

Caltrans has announced there will be a moratorium for planned lane closures for roadwork beginning 6 a.m. Friday, May 22 through 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 26. Some lane closures will continue if they are already in place for construction projects such as State Route 60 in Ontario.

Caltrans has compared traffic counts from a month ago and there is a slight increase in traffic of about 20 percent throughout the Inland Empire. Casino re-openings may cause some traffic impacts. Ernest Figueroa says Caltrans isn’t sure of how the stay-at-home orders will affect the traditionally heavy congestion on the freeways…

Historically, traffic congestion during holiday weekends exists on Interstate 10 between Beaumont and Palm Desert and Interstate 15 (I-15) in the Cajon Pass, Barstow and the Nevada state line. It is unknown what holiday traffic conditions will be during the Covid19 impact; however, motorists are advised to check travel conditions before they go. Fill up your gas tank and ensure that your vehicle is in good running condition for warmer weather this weekend.
