Morongo Valley’s Big Morongo Canyon Preserve Board of Directors recently chose two new board members from an impressive pool of applicants.
The board welcomes Tom Scanlan, a Preserve volunteer leading the Preserve’s boardwalk repair team as well as an education docent for school field trips. Scanlan has a master’s degree in Business Administration and has been responsible for multi-million-dollar capital and operating budgets in his career. In addition, Scanlon is an Archaeological Site Steward in the Cleveland National Forest and at Joshua Tree National Park, and is currently enrolled in the California Naturalist Program at UC Riverside.
The board also welcomes De Karlen, a former Interpretive and Wilderness Ranger with the National Park Service and guide trainer for Desert Adventures. Karlen is a Certified California Naturalist and a Certified Interpretive Guide for the National Association for Interpretation.
Currently, Karlen is completing her master’s degree in Public Administration with a specialty in Non-Profit Leadership.
