AVOID DEHYDRATION IN JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK

During the summer, expect high heat and low humidity in Joshua Tree National Park. Park Rangers recommend drinking at least one gallon of water a day to avoid dehydration when visiting the park. Potable water is only available at Black Rock and Cottonwood campgrounds, the Indian Cove Ranger Station, the Oasis Visitor Center, and at the West Entrance Station. Make sure to eat enough calories, and have salty snacks on hot days to replace the electrolytes lost through sweating. Protect yourself from sun exposure with sunscreen, hats, and light-colored clothing. If you experience heat exhaustion, rest in the shade and pour water on your body. For life-threatening heat stroke, cool the victim immediately and go for help or call 911.
