Yard Sale courtesy: removing signs afterward makes bargain hunting better for everyone

Summer is starting to wind down a bit on the west coast - and even though that’s not necessarily reflected in the hot holiday weather we’re experiencing this weekend, its nice that the warmest parts of the days are sandwiched by cooler temps. So for me, that means early morning weekend garage and yard sales. Some more professional pickers will plan their route and check online groups for advertised sales. Not me, I prefer to throw caution to the murder winds and head out in a freshly cleaned out…

LoveMore Ranch gets full spectrum of feedback on planned 64-home development in Joshua Tree

Fifteen minutes before the 6pm meeting on Thursday, there was already a line snaking outside the Joshua Tree Community Center where a presentation was being prepped by the LoveMore Group about the "LoveMore Ranch," a name given to the planned development on an 18 and a half acre lot that sits at 61650 Alta Loma Dr. Currently the lot is open desert and it's zoned as "single family residential," and was sold for $300,000 in September of 2020. In those first few weeks,…

Sixty-four home development holding community meeting tonight at 6PM in Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree has a housing problem, and the explosion of short-term rentals has removed hundreds of single-family homes from the market that were previously sold or rented to residents. While many of those vacation homes have returned to the market as furnished rentals, affordable housing remains out of reach for many locals. A developer is planning to add 64 homes to a piece of property in Joshua Tree, and tonight they are holding a community session to field questions and comments about it. The…

Last year’s stormy August demonstrates the desert’s wild weather swings

No matter what you got up to this weekend, everyone was probably talking about the weather at some point. Our Californian neighbors to the north of us may roll their eyes when they read this, but Saturday morning and evening was downright "chilly" for the hi-desert, dropping into the low 70’s with a breeze that kept things cool all night. Washes overflowed and flooded low spots on roads during Hurricane Hilary in 2023. Photo: Robert Haydon The slight dip in temperatures this weekend is…

If you’ve been on Highway 247 driving south from outside landers - you may have seen the striking signs warning drivers of the dangerous stretch of road they are on. Mobile Home Parks For Mobile Home Parks - these can be in rural living zones but there can only be 8 spaces per acre, and the minimum lot size must be at least 10 acres.
