The first day in the long-waiting trial of Arthur Davies took care of motions of limine – or pretrial motions – raised by the defense.
There was no jury present or required for the pretrial motions – and the pool of potential jurors filled the courthouse Tuesday and Wednesday to standing-room only. The eventual jury has been told to expect at least a 2-week trial and both sides say they plan on calling expert witnesses to the stand. Potential jurors will face rounds of voir dire – a preliminary examination by the prosecution and defense to find jurors that they think is most suitable for their client and the trial.
The case has been in the system for over 5 years, with numerous delays and continuances, including requests for time by the defense to produce an expert witness.
Arthur Davies is charged with murder and assault resulting in the death of a child. The victim – 1 year old Parker Lee Schumacher – was the son of his then-girlfriend. The incident in question took place on February 10th of 2018, and Davies pled not-guilty to both counts in December of 2019.
