Arthur Davies trial begins jury selection today after 5 years of delays

The case has been in the courts for over 5 years – it was 2018 when Davies was arrested for murder of Parker Lee Schumacher – the 1-year old son of his then-girlfriend.

In February of 2018, the toddler was originally taken to the Hi-Desert Medical Center and was then flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center and placed on life support with injuries consistent with child abuse, which caused hospital staff to notify authorities. At the time, Arthur Davies, 38, was arrested for suspicion of attempted murder, but when Schumacher died on February 12, 2018 after arriving at Loma Linda, the charges were changed to murder and assault resulting in the death of a child.

The defense has presented numerous delays – and in Friday’s pre-trial Arthur Davie’s attorney Zulu Ali wasn’t present. Previous delays have been so the defense could produce an “expert witness.”

Pre-trial starts at 10:30 but Jury Selection is expected to begin in the afternoon.
