Testimony in the Arthur Davies trial continued yesterday on the only scheduled court-date for the week.
Prosecution called witnesses to testify on the two stories Arthur Davies gave to law enforcement.
Detective Cassandra Certa provided the majority of testimony, as she was present during the initial interview with Davies on February 11, 2018 – the day before 17 month old Parker Lee Schumacher succumbed to injuries resulting from the blunt force trauma inflicted upon him a day earlier.
There are some facts that are undisputed by both parties: Arthur Davies and Karissa Caccavari were the only two adults with 17-month-old Parker Lee Schumacher on the evening of February 10th, 2018. Caccavari was doing laundry and had left the trailer 3 previous times for a few minutes each time.
The fourth trip and the 5 to 6 minutes that the mother is outside the trailer is the timeframe in question.
Detective Certa says that Arthur Davies told law enforcement that during that fourth trip, Davies used the bathroom and came back out to Parker facedown on the floor having a seizure.
During an almost 9 hour interview at Sheriff’s Headquarters – Davies changed the details of that story to one where the toddler caused his own fall.
Davies says that Parker was upset when his Mom left to do laundry and in an effort to move the toddler from the kitchen to the living room, – he picked up Parker in his right arm, and while walking near what is described as a “pillar” in the home, Arthur Davies says that the 17-month-old “grabs on there and pulls himself right out of my arms,” and landing on the linoleum floor in the kitchen.
Davies states that Parker “cried for 3 seconds” then was silent. The defendant says he didn’t see how the toddler landed, but he told detectives and later demonstrated on a doll how he found Parker moments after he says the toddler pulled himself out of his arms – facedown with his right arm above his head and left arm by his side.
According to testimony by Forensic Pathologist Dr. Chanikarn Lopez – Parker Lee Schumacher died from the type of blunt force trauma you would receive from an “automobile accident where the victim died” or a “fall from a 3 to 5 story building.”
