ARSON SUSPECT SETS FIRE TO LANDERS STRUCTURE AND CAR

A Landers fire that threatened a single family home has led to an arrest of the suspected arsonist.

Susan Donez, a 33 year-old resident of Thermal, is currently in custody for allegedly setting fire to a car and carport n the 5500 Block of Montara Road in Landers on Monday (August 8.)

Police reports indicate that the house belonged to the mother of Donez’s boyfriend, and that Donez was acting irate, banging on the door, attacking the home with a hammer, and taking items, before allegedly starting a fire in the garage. The fire was reported at 8:30 and when firefighters arrived 15 minutes later, deputies were already on the scene. The fire was in danger of spreading to the adjacent home as the San Bernardino County Firefighters were also battling high winds – but they quickly had the fire out within minutes. No one was injured in the fire.

Donez was not at the scene, and was arrested later Monday evening and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for suspected Arson of property. Donez is being held on $50,000 bail.
