“Amboy Crater” lecture closes out Old Schoolhouse Museum lecture season this Friday (6/9)

“Amboy Crater: Geology, Ecology and Historical Perspectives” is being held this Friday, June 9th at the Old Schoolhouse Museum in Twentynine Palms.

Amboy Crater is an extinct cinder cone that formed from the ash and debris that were ejected into the air from volcanic events around 8000 years ago – making the gigantic crater one of the youngest volcanoes in the Mojave desert. The crater is a host to native plants and wildlife – and is over 27 square miles of basalt lava flows with a unique history that includes ranching, railroads, mining and folklore.

The talk is being given by Professor Emeritus Bruce W. Bridenbecker from Copper Mountain College.

Sponsored by the Desert Institute at Joshua Tree National Park and the Twentynine Palms Historical Society, this lecture will be held at the Old Schoolhouse Museum, 6760 National Park Drive in 29 Palms on Friday, June 9th, at 7 pm.

There will be a special season’s closing reception at 6 pm!

The fee for the presentation is $5.00 paid at the door.
