Sky’s the Limit Observatory and Nature Center in Twentynine Palms will be holding a dance performance/dance masterclass in celebration of the Pink Moon on Saturday April 12, with music and dance by Alchemy Arts Collective.

Alchemy Art Collective’s Barbara Koch says the Pink Moon marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, representing strength, vitality, beauty, and the season of growth and rebirth. Since we begin to spend more time outdoors in this season, Koch has organized this dance performance to get the community out to watch a performance inspired by the Pink Moon under the night sky.

“So the pink moon is the flower moon, the pink moon of spring. It’s basically the transition between winter coming into summer, coming into a new era––a new time, a new energy––and that’s basically what I’m deriving the movement from. The movements are pulling from these concepts of circles and orbs, like the glow of the pink moon, the energy of a circular orbiting movement, rotation… so I have four adult dancers and there’s a mathematical structure of our solar system up there at Skies the Limit, so we’re going to be doing the piece in a big circle,” said Koch.

Afterwards, Koch will be inviting attendees to take part in a master class based on the performance.

“That master class is going to be also using those same concepts with whoever wants to participate but it won’t be like a dance class––it’ll be more like, make a movement that has a circle in it, or make a pattern with a part of your body it could be your elbow it could be your hip it could be you drawing in the sand it could be an orbiting walk it could be a circular walk, then I’ll be inviting people to share.”

Alchemy Art Collective’s Pink Moon Performance and masterclass is part of a two-day Full Moon Festival at Sky’s the Limit Observatory and Nature Center in Twentynine Palms Friday, April 11 and Saturday April 12. Saturday’s performance begins at 7:00 p.m. will be followed by live discussion with a Joshua Tree National Park ranger, followed by desert stories, and full moon telescope viewing after dark. For more information, including tickets, full schedule, and attractions for both nights, please visit: skysthelimit29.org.
