A number of local listings on short-term vacation rental website AirBNB have been deactivated this morning, affecting many listings in the Morongo Basin. AirBNB has said that they are working to resolve the issue on their end.
Staff from the town of Yucca Valley confirmed the temporary deactivation of several rental listings on the website, and confirmed that other cities, including Twentynine Palms are experiencing similar issues. Yucca Valley town staff said that the deactivation was not related to any actions taken by them or by any County officials.
The notice from AirBNB reads, “The City of San Bernardino County [SIC] has deactivated your listing.” The notice than asks users to update their city registration.”
It is unknown if the issue is related to specific cities and towns, or San Berardino County. The issue is specific to the AirBNB platform, not all short term rental sites. The AirBNB platform still lists several vacation rentals in the high desert as available, but it is unknown if they were not impacted by the notice or have been since restored.
This is an ongoing story. Stay tuned to Z1077 for more details as we receive them.
UPDATED: Twentynine Palms City Manager Frank Luckino told Z107.7 that the issue was caused by a new requirement that AirBNB’s have county permit listed online. Since rentals within Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms require city permits rather than county permits, listings within these areas were removed. Luckino said that the error is expected to be resolved by the end of today (June 7)
