585 pounds of unused, expired or unwanted prescription drugs were turned into San Bernardino Sheriffs on the 23rd Nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day that was held on Saturday, October 29th.

The public was encouraged to bring in any sort of unwanted prescriptions for a no-questions asked safe-disposal – and at the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s station alone over 34 pounds were collected. But Rancho Cucamonga brought in the most, weighing in with 220 pounds of collected pills and prescriptions.

Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue, leading to potential accidental poisoning, misuse, and overdose. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment as well.

Last year the program collected 360 tons of expired and unused medications nationwide.

Amount of prescriptions collected:

  • Barstow – 5 lbs.
  • Central – 42 lbs.
  • Chino Hills – 107 lbs.
  • Highland – 95 lbs.
  • Morongo Basin – 34 lbs.
  • Rancho Cucamonga – 220 lbs.
  • Twin Peaks – 62 lbs.
  • Victorville – 20 lbs.
