2nd Annual Black Birders Week holds free birding class in Big Morongo on 5/27

The Big Morongo Canyon Preserve is partnering with the Bureau of Land Management and the Wilderness Society to provide a free, family friendly introduction to birding, all while elevating the visibility of black bird enthusiasts here in the hi desert and beyond. Black Birders week starts May 30th and goes through June 5th, and the organizers say it was created to showcase one of the many ways that black people connect with nature and the outdoors. To kick off the event, the preserve will be holding a family-friendly introduction to birding on Saturday, May 27th from 8AM to Noon.

Big Morongo Canyon is internationally known for its biodiversity – and over 240 different species of birds have been recorded in the lush canyon. You can join Alicia Thomas, Jihadda Govan and Kaliegh Watson as they lead you through the canyon – watching for migratory species along the way and keeping an eye out for the abundance of year-round residents as well.

The introduction to birding is free, but registration is required and space is limited.
