29 Palms Seeks Public Input on Proposed Wastewater Project

Residents of Twentynine Palms are being encouraged to join an advisory committee on a proposed sewer system for the city.

As Yucca Valley moves through Phase One of their own sewer project, Twentynine Palms is hoping to be not far behind, but they are asking residents to help. City leaders are encouraging residents of Twentynine Palms to join a new advisory committee to help guide a proposed centralized sewer collection system and wastewater treatment facility. The project would involve the conversion of septic tanks to a modern sewer system city-wide.

City Manager Frank Luckino has stated that concerns about untreated sewage contaminating the groundwater is of utmost concern. Also, as the city faces a housing shortage, it has been noted that housing developers tend to avoid communities that are not yet on sewer, so there is an economic growth aspect at play. Government grants will play a role in financing the project though residents will also likely be contributing for a sewer hook-up.

Residents interested in joining the Community Advisory Committee should submit an online application by Thursday, April 20 – the link is here: https://www.ci.twentynine-palms.ca.us/index.asp?SEC={E952CB16-EB56-47FB-8392-84697A05AAE1}&Type=SMARTFORM
