29 Palms City Council to Reassess Vacation Home Rental Policy Tonight, Feb. 28

The Twentynine Palms City Council will gather this evening to take on several agenda items, namely, a deeper review of the city’s Vacation Home Rental policy. Reporter Heather Clisby has details…

Tonight, the Twentynine Palms City Council will kick off the meeting by honoring David Smith, the former Superintendent of Joshua Tree National Park, for his service.

As part of the Consent Calendar, the council will likely approve a contribution of $25,000 to the Morongo Basin ARCH, a resource organization for the homeless.

The council will then discuss the application of eminent domain on a .17-acre downtown parcel intended for senior housing.

Since the city’s Vacation Home Rental (VHR) ordinance was put in place just eight months ago, several unexpected situations have arisen, enough for the council to revisit the policy at the meeting.

Finally, the council will take a hard look at the Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) Board and consider four-year term limits, as well as determining what entities should be represented.

The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road. The event will also be livestreamed and provided on-demand via the city’s website, www.29palms.org
