29 Palms Book Festival runs all day long

The first annual 29 Palms Book Festival is happening today at Freedom Plaza, the Corner 62 Passage, and other local favorite spots in Twentynine Palms.

The book fair starts at 9 a.m., followed by a variety of book signings by Southern California authors, as well as those local to the Morongo Basin. A wide variety of live events and panel discussions will be happening throughout the day and into the night, including Indie Bookstore Life In The Mojave Desert with Space Cowboy and Raven Books, a tribute to iconic Western author Louie L’Amour, an exploration of a book project on the lost Gram Parsons sci-fi film Saturation 70, and yours truly will be mediating a live discussion on the Mojave’s impact on crime-fiction with Tod Goldberg and Ivy Pochoda at 7:15PM, and immediately afterward, I’ll be hosting Mojave Noir; an eight author live reading at Mara Restaurant with live musical accompaniment by composer Lee Scott.

The book festival will close at Mas o Menos with Postcards from Mecca, a presentation on California Desert Photographs from 1916-1936, with music from Americana singer-songwriter Tony Gilkyson. The 29 Palms Book Festival is free to attend—go to 29pbf.com to secure your seat and to view more programming.
