UPDATES WITH VICTIM IDENTIFICATION.
Two people were killed in a head-on collision in Landers Friday evening. According to the California Highway Patrol, Michael Daugherty, 24, of Big Bear, was driving a 2009 Dodge Durango northbound on Old Woman Springs Road at about 55 miles per hour. About 5:30 p.m., Daugherty attempted to pass a tractor-trailer combination just north of Linn Road. When Daugherty pulled into the southbound lane to pass, he saw a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier driving toward him in the southbound lane. In an attempt to take evasive action, Daugherty swerved to the left and the other driver—who has not yet been identified by the Coroner’s office—swerved to the right. Both vehicles collided head on and rolled over, coming to rest on the west shoulder of the highway. The 22-year-old driver, Krüe Karnbach, 22 from Johnson Valley, and his 19-year-old female passenger Natalie Craddock, from Landers, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Daugherty received major injuries; his 1-year-old daughter, who was restrained in a child safety seat, received minor injuries. Both victims were taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs.
