New Artist In Twentynine Palms Shares Talents With Theatre 29 Audiences

Much of the magic of live theatre happens outside the spotlight. Recently, an acclaimed artist lent his skills to our local community theatre.

When travelling artist Kevin Maddrey recently settled into Twentynine Palms, he wanted to contribute to the local arts. The artist, hailing from Northern California, contacted Gary Daigneault, the director of the upcoming production, “Disney’s My Son Pinocchio: Geppetto’s Musical Tale” at Theatre 29. He was first invited to a rehearsal and then discussed the vision for the show’s stage settings. At the end of the meeting, Maddrey asked for a paintbrush and, as the local director described it, “The magic happened”. He began blocking out the forms and colors freehand for the primary background for the show. A few hours later, He was done, and the delighted director realized he had a literal work of art to frame his production. See for yourself when “My Son Pinocchio: Geppetto’s Musical Tale” opens weekends from May 12 – 28. Tickets are available at www.theatre29.org
