YUCCA VALLEY WOMAN WAKES TO FIND MAN TRYING TO RAPE HER

A Yucca Valley man was arrested Tuesday morning, accused of breaking into a home and attempting to rape a woman. The Sheriff’s department received a call about 5:45 a.m. that a man, later identified as Lawrence Carruthers, 51, of the 6100 block of Avalon Court, was in a bedroom in the 6400 block of El Dorado Avenue and was raping a woman. The woman told deputies that she woke up to find Carruthers, who appeared to be drunk, in her bed making sexual noises. Lawrence Carruthers was arrested for investigation of attempted rape, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $125,000. Lawrence Carruthers has an extensive criminal history of drunk and disorderly and sexual battery.
