The Yucca Valley Town Council adopted policies that encourage joint programs with other entities, such as the county, for issues facing the town—such as homelessness—that are regional in nature. Council members also agreed, without comment, to oppose legislation that establishes federal, state, or regional wildlife corridor evaluation area development restrictions that are not scientifically based upon factual and detailed biological and wildlife corridor studies. The council set funding priorities (with funds provided by grants, and joint projects with other agencies) for a new multi-purpose gym and rec center ($5.7 million), road improvements (adding two lanes to Yucca Trail from Sage to La Contenta Road; adding two lanes to Highway 62 from Sage to Airway; adding a Morongo Basin bike path, $16.3 million), a new fire station ($7.7 million), and a new aquatics center ($8.6 million). The council also learned that recycling organic green material will become mandatory for large grocery stores on April 1, and for some restaurants by January 1.
