In other business at Tuesday’s 4-hour meeting of the Yucca Valley Town Council, the Council and the Planning Commission heard the Town’s General Plan Update, and requested a few minor modifications. The Council also reviewed and approved a provision to the Town Code concerning the nomination and selection of mayor and mayor pro tem, adding a provision that appointed council members be junior to all other council members. Finally, the Council approved a spay/neuter voucher program. Only Yucca Valley residents will be eligible for the $60 voucher. There are no income restrictions for the voucher, but residents are limited to three vouchers every five years. The voucher program will start within 30 days once the new animal shelter is up and running. The voucher program is funded by a bequest by Cyla Wells to the Town, and is expected to fund spaying and neutering operations for 500 dogs and cats over the next one to two years. Council member Dawn Rowe asked that the voucher program be funded by the Town once the bequest was used up.
