The Yucca Valley Town Council met in regular session last night. Managing Editor Tami Roleff was there and breaks her report into two parts. Today in part 1, recognitions and promotions, tomorrow in part 2, highway improvements are coming…

The Yucca Valley Town Council regular meeting Tuesday night started with recognizing the promotion of County Fire Battalion Chief Dave Benfield to Division Chief of the South Desert region. Benfield has been with the San Bernardino County Fire Department for 32 years, and he was happy he was able to stay in the area after his promotion. “There were three division chief openings; one was here and two were elsewhere, and I gotta tell you, I was hoping I’d get the one here.” Also recognized last night was Ashley Richardson, a recreation leader, who was named Employee of the Quarter. Introduced to the Council was Melissa Kramer, who started her new job Tuesday as the Sheriff Department’s new Safety Service Specialist. Kramer grew up here and began her career with the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department in 1999 as a Sheriff Explorer at the Morongo Basin station. After the recognitions, the Town Council got down to business of authorizing the advertisement of bids for a highway improvement project, and a resolution supporting the continued local control of the Morongo Basin Transit Authority.
