YUCCA VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL GIVES GO-AHEAD TO SALES TAX MEASURES

Earlier this year, more than 300 Yucca Valley residents participated in a telephone survey about whether they would support two separate half-cent sales tax measures that would reduce the cost of the sewer assessments, and support infrastructure in the town. Managing editor Tami Roleff says the council heard the results of the town-wide survey at its meeting last night…
The Yucca Valley Town Council learned at its meeting last night that 74 percent of those surveyed would definitely or probably support a sales tax measure that would reduce sewer assessments, and 71 percent would definitely or probably support a half cent tax that would go toward public safety and infrastructure. After hearing there was support for potential sales tax measures, the council directed staff to write up an ordinance that would include how the sales tax revenues would be used to reduce residents’ sewer assessments in all three phases of the wastewater project, and be used to make neighborhoods safer and improve local streets. The council will be presented with the measures at its August 2 meeting, at which time it can give their approval for them to be placed on the ballot for the November election. In other business, the council voted to approve a professional services agreement with the Desert Regional Tourism Agency for $40,000 for a marketing plan for the Morongo Basin.
