YUCCA VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL CHOOSES THE LIBRARY TO GO INTO THE OLD PFF BUILDING

At last night’s meeting of the Yucca Valley Town Council, the council was presented with three alternatives for potential use of the former PFF Bank Building: a new location for the town library; a new location for the Hi-Desert Nature Museum; or combination of the Hi-Desert Nature Museum and the California Welcome Center. Managing editor Tami Roleff says the council members all agreed that the library would be the best option…
Although the PFF Bank building’s 7,200 square feet is smaller than the current library, the architect in charge of evaluating the building’s possibilities said that with the increasing popularity of electronic books, and by maximizing the building’s space, moving the town’s library to the PFF Bank building would be the best option. Mayor George Huntington agreed. “The library basically appears to be financially also the best option because, of the three options, it’s the only one that we could garner some lease payments from the county… Basically, the county would outfit the interior of the building and we wouldn’t have to worry about that.” Council member Merl Abel was excited about making it the new location for the town’s library. “I believe the library would be probably even more used; it’s a highly used library now. What we could best do with the PFF building is use it for the public good. So we know it will be highly used if we expand that into a library. This will also be a benefit for our residents here but also those San Bernardino County residents. I’m really excited to see if we can partner with the county.” The council voted 5-to-0 to have staff begin discussions with the county library about using the new building.
