More than three dozen Yucca Valley residents turned out for the Hi-Desert Water District’s special meeting Thursday night to ask questions of the engineers who designed the town’s wastewater treatment facility. Residents questioned how the initial estimate of $125 million for the sewer project ballooned up to more than $146 million—more miles of pipe and higher materials cost—and grilled directors and staff on the actuality of the Town receiving a 0 percent loan from the State Revolving Fund. Staff told residents that another city had received a zero percent loan from the SRF for a 10-year period, and reassured residents that it was possible. When residents started asking specific questions about the sewer project in their neighborhoods, directors reminded residents that the water district holds neighborhood meetings every Tuesday at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. where they could get their questions answered.
