YUCCA VALLEY MAN SENTENCED TO ONE YEAR FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER

A Yucca Valley man who pleaded guilty to attempted murder was sentenced to one year in county jail. On July 31, Drew Childs, now 34, went to his grandmother’s home in the 7200 block of Palo Alto Avenue in Yucca Valley where he attempted to smother her with a pillow two times. A few hours later, Childs then went to a woman’s house in the 7100 block of Palo Alto in Yucca Valley where he stabbed Osbaldo Ramirez in the neck. Childs was arrested by deputies about an hour later and has been held in the West Valley Detention Center ever since. On Wednesday, Drew Childs accepted a plea bargain in both cases. He pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, and causing great bodily injury to an elderly person. Judge Bert Swift sentenced Drew Childs to 365 days in county jail for the attempted murder and assault pleas, to be served concurrently, with credit for 178 days served. Childs is scheduled to be released from jail today, Monday, January 29. A restitution hearing has been set for May 11.
