YUCCA VALLEY MAN KILLS HIMSELF AFTER SHOOTING AT DEPUTIES IN ARMED STANDOFF

A Yucca Valley man killed himself Saturday following an armed standoff with deputies. About 7:20 p.m., deputies were called to the 58100 block of Pimlico Street in Yucca Valley by a family member who said that David Rodrigue, 52—who was armed with a gun—was threatening her and her family, had fired the gun inside the home, and had threatened suicide. When deputies arrived, they were able to help the family get out of the home safely. Deputies contacted Rodrigue and urged him to surrender and leave the house. Rodrigue shot at deputies, narrowly missing them. At that time, deputies called for assistance from the Specialized Enforcement Division who continued negotiations with Rodrigue.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, December 1, Rodrigue stopped talking to negotiators and refused to answer his phone. Deputies deployed a chemical agent in the home in an attempt to get him to leave the house. When he did not come out, deputies sent in a robot which found David Rodrigue with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a handgun next to him. He was pronounced deceased inside the home. No family members or deputies were injured during the incident. The Riverside County Coroner’s office will conduct the autopsy.
