YUCCA VALLEY MAN ARRESTED AFTER BRANDISHING A GUN AT DEPUTIES

A Yucca Valley man spent Friday night in jail after police say he met them at the door with a gun. According to a Sheriff’s report, deputies went to a home in the 56800 block of Free Gold Drive in Yucca Valley about 9:20 Friday night in response to a domestic argument. Joseph Bennett, 52, was reported to be very drunk and arguing with his wife and punching the walls of his house. Arriving deputies rang the door bell and knocked on the door several times; when Bennett finally opened the door, he was holding a 9-mm pistol in his hand. Deputies say that Bennett took several steps toward them while they identified themselves as police officers and ordered him to drop the gun. Bennett finally stepped backwards and placed the gun on a table outside near the front door, at which time he was taken into custody. Joseph Bennett was arrested for investigation of exhibiting a firearm in the presence of a police officer and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail. He was released about 12:30 the next afternoon.
