YUCCA VALLEY MAN ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTED MURDER

A Yucca Valley man who was suspected of intentionally driving his vehicle into another vehicle at a high rate of speed two weeks ago was arrested Friday (February 19), accused of attempted murder. According to a Sheriff’s report, about 10:30 p.m. February 4, Aaron Trofler, 43, intentionally rammed his vehicle twice into the victim’s vehicle—while the victim was in it—at a high rate of speed in the 8000 block of Palomar Avenue in Yucca Valley. Trofler fled the scene before deputies arrived. Deputies obtained an arrest warrant for Trofler for attempted murder. Over the next several days, Trofler allegedly went back to the victim’s home several times, but was always able to evade arrest, sometimes with the help of friends. On Friday, February 19, detectives say Trofler returned to the victim’s home in the 58200 block of Carlyle Drive in Yucca Valley and intentionally set a fire in the bathroom. The victim came home and called firefighters for assistance about 7:10 a.m., and crews were able to put it out quickly. Trofler was gone when first responders arrived, but deputies located him about 4:40 p.m. near Palomar Avenue and Juarez Drive in Yucca Valley. He was apprehended following a short foot pursuit. Aaron Trofler was arrested for investigation of attempted murder, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $1 million.
