YUCCA MESA GIRL SUCCUMBS AFTER A 9-YEAR BATTLE WITH CANCER

A Yucca Mesa girl with cancer, who has been the focus of several stories on Z107.7, died early Friday morning. Abigail Snipes, 13, had her first surgery days before her 4th birthday in 2006 to remove a tumor from her neck. Diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, Abigail remained in stable condition until shortly before her 12th birthday, when the tumor suddenly started growing again. Just over a year ago, doctors removed a 15-pound tumor from her neck. Law enforcement agencies rallied around Abigail and her family. The Debbie Chisholm Memorial Foundation coordinated “The Best Christmas” ever for Abigail and her family in 2014, and the Sheriff’s Department fulfilled one of Abigail’s wishes by giving her a helicopter ride over the Inland Empire last October. Local residents and businesses, assisted by a donated live broadcast from Z107.7, raised more than $17,000 during “Abigail’s Day” last March so her family wouldn’t have to worry about paying the rent while they spent time with Abigail at the hospital. Abigail celebrated her 13th birthday in November. Abigail Snipes is survived by her parents, Ricky and Angela Snipes, and two sisters, Hailey and Makenna. Her family has set up a GoFundMe account.
