WONDER VALLEY TO HONOR THE LATE JACK MCONAHA

The community of Wonder Valley will remember former Fire Chief Jack McConaha, from noon until 3 p.m. this Saturday, April 29. There will be a potluck from noon until 2 p.m. Musicians Bill and Bob will perform live. The short film “Riding Shotgun with Jack McConaha,” by local filmmaker Nick Higgins, will be screened. After the screening, community members will have a chance to share their stories about McConaha. McConaha served the Wonder Valley Volunteer Fire Department from 1976 until 1990, 14 years, 12 as fire chief until the fire department merged with County Fire. He then served as captain until he retired in 1990. McConaha received the Firefighter of the Year award in 1981, 1983, and 1987, and was named Citizen of the Year in 1983 by the Twentynine Palms Elks. Jack McConaha died March 23, 2015. Only now are his daughters able to join the community of Wonder Valley for a memorial at the Wonder Valley Community Center.
