WOMAN HOSPITALIZED AFTER BEING PINNED BY CAR AT GAS PUMP

A 35-year-old woman was hospitalized Wednesday evening after she was trapped between her car and a gas pump in Twentynine Palms. According to Battalion Chief Mike Snow, Twentynine Palms firefighters were called to the AM/PM gas station in the 73400 block of 29 Palms Highway about 6 p.m. to extricate the woman. Snow said the woman had parked her car at the gas pump and as she started to get out of the vehicle, it slipped out of gear and rolled forward. The door shut on her as it hit the gas pump and pinned her. The unidentified woman was unconscious when rescuers arrived; after pushing the vehicle away from the pump, they had to assist her breathing. Morongo Basin Ambulance transported the woman to Hi-Desert Medical Center where she was then flown to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs.
