WOMAN FOUND HIDING SUSPECTED OF STEALING VEHICLE

A stolen vehicle with an engine that was still warm, and footprints leading away from the vehicle to a shed where a Twentynine Palms woman was found hiding, resulted in an arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy was called to the 61900 block of Commercial Street in Joshua Tree about 8 p.m. There the deputy located a vehicle that matched the description of a reported stolen car. The deputy determined that the car’s engine was still warm, and the interior lights were still on inside the car. The deputy followed a set of footprints that led from the car to a shed. Inside the shed was Francis Stanovich, 34, who denied being in the vehicle or knowing where the driver of the vehicle was. The deputy stated there was only one set of footprints leaving the car, there was a hair inside the vehicle that matched Stanovich’s multi-colored hair, and the driver’s seat was adjusted for a person of Stanovich’s height of 5 feet 4 inches. Francis Stanovich was arrested for investigation of being in possession of stolen property, and on a warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $100,000.
