WOMAN ACCUSED OF DUI AND CHILD ENDANGERMENT AFTER 29 PALMS CRASH

A woman accused of crashing her car and injuring her son while allegedly driving drunk was arrested Saturday. According to the Sheriff’s Department, Joanna Pohl, 34, of Washington state, was driving southbound on Sunrise Road in Twentynine Palms at 8:19 p.m. with her 8-year-old son in the back seat. Deputies say Pohl ran the stop sign at Highway 62 and drove across all lanes of traffic. Her car then struck the berm on the south side of the highway and was launched about 200 feet into the open desert. Her car rolled multiple times, coming to rest on its roof. Pohl’s son was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs, and Pohl was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center. Both were later released. Deputies determined that alcohol was a factor in the crash. Joanna Pohl was arrested for investigation of willful cruelty to a child and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $100,000.

A bystander at the scene of this rollover crash in Twentynine Palms Saturday night said the car launched from Highway 62 about 200 feet and nose dived into the desert and rolled over. Courtesy photo
