WINS FOR BOTH YUCCA VALLEY AND TWENTYNINE PALMS FOOTBALL

The Yucca Valley High School Trojan Varsity won Friday’s league game against Desert Mirage 35-33. Coach Andrew Amosa said standouts on offense were Junior quarterback Jake Moore with three touchdown passes and senior Sean Wallace had two clutch catches to set up game-winning touchdown. Defensive standout was Senior Larry Williamson with 16 tackles, a forced fumble and a blocked kick. Trojans defense, came up with a huge turnover with two minutes left in the game to set up the touchdown drive.

The junior varsity also won its league game against Desert Mirage 50-14. They are 6-0 for the season.

Trailing 14-0 in the first quarter the 29 Palms Varsity Wildcats scored 21 unanswered points in the final 3 quarters to defeat last seasonā€™s De Anza league champion Shadow Hills 21-14 in a terrific football game that featured two goal line stands by the home team to preserve the win.
The team is now 6-0, and 2-0 in De Anza league play for the season. The ‘Cats are alone in first place with four games remaining in the regular season. Stat leaders for the ‘Cats were Jimmy Shragge with 183 yards passing and two touchdown passes. Beayahn Carrllo had a rushing and receiving touchdown. Demetrius Holmes had five receptions and a touchdown. Derek Sutherland and Kyle Hope teamed up for five receptions on the game. Defensively Colton Myers had 14 tackles and a sack. Donavan Esquilin, Kyle Hope, and Andrew Wilson had seven tackles each in outstanding efforts. Michael Clark, K.J Magwood, and Enliko Tuli combined for 20 total tackles and two sacks making key tackles in the final minutes of the game.

Trailing 14-0 in the first quarter, the Twentynine Palms varsity Wildcat football team scored 21 unanswered points in the final three quarters to defeat last seasonā€™s DeAnza league champion Shadow Hills in a terrific football game that featured two goal line stands by the Twentynine Palms home team to preserve the win. The Wildcats fell behind early, after an interception on the ‘Cats third play from scrimmage was returned to the 2-yard line on the first series of offense. A two-yard run by the Knights made the score 6-0 early in the game. Shadow Hills marched 60 yards for its only scoring drive of the game late in the first quarter after two long screen passes put them in the red zone. A 15-yard touchdown pass gave the visitors a 14-point lead with 2:08 left on the first quarter clock. However the home team would respond with several big plays of their own in the second quarter. Linebackers K.J. Magwood and Colton Meyers would sack the Knights’ quarterback on consecutive plays, forcing the visitors to punt from their own goal line. With great field position after a short punt, senior Beayahn Carrllo would score on a six-yard run, to bring the score to 14-7 after Ryan Stowers point-after kick. Senior quarterback Jimmy Shragge connected on a long pass to Demetrius Holmes to set up the touchdown run by Carrllo. A defensive struggle would conclude the first half as the ‘Cats were stopped at the 32-yard line on downs.
The Wildcats opened the third quarter with an impressive 80-yard scoring drive to tie the game with 10:07 left in the quarter. Jimmy Shragge connected on a 40-yard slant pass to senior wide out Demetrius Holmes and the score was tied at 14. The Cats held the Knights to only five plays on the next series and the visitors punted from their own 25-yard line. On the home team’s second drive of the half, they only needed four plays to score, as Carrllo caught a screen pass in the flat and followed tremendous blocking by seniors Kyle Hope and Donavan Esquilin for a 45-yard touchdown pass reception, giving the ‘Cats a lead they would never relinquish. The point after made it 21-14, setting up an emotional finish to the game. The Knights would not go away easily, and marched 75 yards on 16 plays only to be stopped inside the 3-yard line on four consecutive tries. The defensive line and linebackers led by Colton Myers, Donavan Esquilin, Kyle Hope, Eneliko Tuli, Andrew Wilson, Shane Estrada, K.J. Magwood, Micheal Clarke, Gunnar Moss, and Caleb Roy all made outstanding plays on two tremendous goal line stands. The Knights would have one more drive inside the 5-yard line with 37 seconds left in the game. With both crowds on their feet, the home team would tackle the Knights tailback on fourth down and goal three yards short of the end zone to preserve the sixth victory in a row for the ‘Cats.

The ‘Cats will now travel to play three tough games on the road starting with Big Bear on Saturday afternoon at 1:30.
