Event Description: The show must go on! The Glass Outhouse Art Gallery in Twenty Palms will open its 12th Art Season with a reception on Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 5 pm to 9 pm. In collaboration with True North Photo Society, the gallery will feature three photographers, Carole Massey, Vina Saycocie and Brandy Sebastian. These visual artists will present a diversity of image-making portfolios, including landscape, street-travel and creative conceptual photography.
Please join us to enjoy the photographic exhibition and the whimsical outdoor art installations as well as connect with the community of local artists. View 180-degree desert view at sunset from the one and only glass outhouse. This is a free event with light refreshments and music by Mark & Friends; the reception will be held outdoors. Due to COVID-19, please wear masks and maintain social distancing.

Environmental Choices and Local Voices How to harness the power of local communities to develop winning environmental and land use campaigns. The California Desert Coalition (CDC) is pleased to host the first free, one hour Defend the Desert Webinar. The webinar will be hosted via Zoom on Thursday, Sept 17th from 5:30-6:30pm. Stay tuned for registration and logon instructions. Influencing environmental decision making at the local level is both an art and a science. Participants in this webinar will learn important tips for: • Organizing members of the community to participate in environmental decision making at town council meetings, planning commissions, board of supervisors and state agencies and commissions • Crafting meaningful oral and written comments • Utilizing traditional and social media to shape the opinion of key decision makers • Developing winning campaign strategies • Creating diverse lobbying teams and successfully structuring meetings with local elected officials The webinar will use the current effort to list the western Joshua tree as a threatened species under CESA as a case study and encourage participants to play an active role in this important desert environmental issue. We build coalitions to promote a deeper understanding of public policy issues and to stitch together the voices that are responsible for these decisions.
