    WONDER VALLEY COMMUNITY MEETING
    Event Date: March 10, 2018
    Event Time: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Event Description: Everyone is invited and welcome to attend and participate in a Wonder Valley Community Special Meeting, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Wonder Valley Community Center, 80526-1/2 Amboy Road, Wonder Valley, CA 92277.

This will be a Special Meeting with only one item on the agenda: filling out the survey for Wonder Valley’s Fundamental Plan. The surveys will be used by Land Use Services to compile a profile for our area. Creating a Fundamental Plan is the first step toward a Community Plan, which is designed to give residents of an area a degree of control over the direction of their communities.

Land Use Services is employing a business management tool called SWOT Analysis. SWOT stands for “Strengths,” “Weaknesses,” “Opportunities,” and “Threats.” In addition to these there are a few other categories. It’s a little complicated and I thought it might be helpful if we filled them out together. I have 30 copies. We can discuss the categories and then each person can fill out their survey the way they choose.

This is important. If you can’t make it, come in on any Monday, Wednesday, or Saturday between the hours of 9 and 2 and I will walk you through the process.

There will be scones. Please attend. Again, your input is very important to our community!

    Thank you.

  • EVENING WITH THE COSMOS AT SKY’S THE LIMIT

    6:30 PM-8:30 PM
    03-10-2018

9697 Utah Trail, 29 Palms, CA, United States

9697 Utah Trail, 29 Palms, CA, United States

EVENING WITH THE COSMOS AT SKY’S THE LIMIT

Saturday, March 10 at Sky’s The Limit:

Sky’s The Limit Observatory and Nature Center invites stargazers to enjoy the desert night sky on Saturday, March 10. This free public event begins at 6:30 pm and will last approximately two hours. The Observatory is at 9697 Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms, just outside the main (north) entrance to Joshua Tree National Park.

Mid-March is a great time to view the night sky: eight first-magnitude stars and several of the brightest constellations stand out against the rich star fields of the winter Milky Way.

The Orion Nebula and the Pleiades are in the western sky, and brilliant Jupiter will be well placed for viewing later in the evening east of the constellation Leo the Lion. Look to the northeast to find the Big Dipper.

Prominent constellations are: Cassiopeia (the Seated Queen), Auriga (the Charioteer), Taurus (the Bull), Orion (the Hunter), Gemini (the Twins), and Canis Major (the Great Dog).

Volunteers will set up a variety of kinds and sizes of telescopes on the winding sidewalks, and guests are welcome to use them or may bring their own binoculars and scopes as well. The presentation is very casual, so come at any time and leave when you wish. Bring a red flashlight to preserve night vision.

The campus is always open, so arrive around sunset to allow time to visit other educational attractions before the cosmic tour begins at dark. Dress for unpredictable desert weather and bring snacks, water bottles, and chairs.

There are no overnight stays and NO CAMPING anywhere on the Observatory and Nature Center property. No pets, no smoking or alcohol allowed, and visitors must carry out all trash. Adults must accompany and take responsibility for the safety and behavior of children under 16.

The seasonal sky is very unpredictable and a viewing event may have to be delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled due to cloudiness, rain, or excessive wind. Check Sky’s The Limit Facebook Page or follow @STL29Palms to learn the latest status of an event, or call Ray at 760-365-7897.

For more information and to see photos taken through STL’s 14” Celestron Schmidt–Cassegrain telescope, visit the STL web site at www.skysthelimit29.org. STL is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Donations to support Sky’s The Limit’s educational programs are gratefully accepted.

SPECTACULAR MESSIER OBJECTS AT SKY’S THE LIMIT

Saturday, March 17 at Sky’s The Limit:

Sky’s The Limit Observatory and Nature Center invites stargazers to enjoy the desert night sky on Saturday, March 17. This free public event begins at 7:45 pm and will last approximately three hours. The Observatory is at 9697 Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms, just outside the main (north) entrance to Joshua Tree National Park.

In the late 1700s, Charles Messier discovered many great deep sky objects in the northern skies in his years of hunting for comets, and spectacular Messier Objects are visible in the spring sky.

The Orion Nebula and the great clusters of Auriga and Gemini are setting in the west and the fantastic field of galaxies between Leo and Virgo highlights some of the best of Messier’s discoveries.

Prominent constellations are Auriga (the Charioteer), Orion (the Hunter), Gemini (the Twins), Canis Major (the Great Dog), Leo (the Lion), and Ursa Major (the Great Bear).

TELESCOPE CLINIC AT SKY’S THE LIMIT

Saturday, March 24 at Sky’s The Limit:

Sky’s The Limit Observatory and Nature Center invites stargazers to enjoy the desert night sky on Saturday, March 24. This free public event begins at 8:00 pm and will last approximately three hours. The Observatory is at 9697 Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms, just outside the main (north) entrance to Joshua Tree National Park.

Volunteers will set up a variety of kinds and sizes of telescopes on the winding sidewalks, and guests are welcome to use them or may bring their own binoculars and scopes as well.

A special invitation goes out to people interested in learning about scopes as well as those who have brand new (or even old) equipment and could use some coaching.

The campus is always open, so arrive around 6:30 to allow time to set up your equipment or visit other educational attractions before the cosmic tour begins at dark.

The presentation is very casual, so come at any time and leave when you wish. Bring a red flashlight to preserve night vision.

The seasonal sky is very unpredictable, and a viewing event may have to be delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled due to cloudiness, rain, or excessive wind. Check @skysthelmit29 or follow @STL29Palms to learn the latest status of an event or call Ray at 760-365-7897.
