    Sidewalk Astronomy

Sky’s The Limit Observatory and Nature Center invites stargazers to enjoy the desert night sky on SaturdayJanuary 6This free public event begins at 5:45 pm and ends around 9:00 pm. The Observatory is at 9697 Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms, just outside the main (north) entrance to Joshua Tree National Park.

The winter Milky Way will be visible, and celestial highlights include the Andromeda Galaxy, the Pleiades star cluster, and Great Orion Nebula. Observe several fascinating double stars such as the matched pair in Aries known as the Rams Eyes and the colorful pair in Cassiopeia located 19 light years from the earth, featuring a bright yellow star and a fainter red dwarf companion.

Prominent constellations are Aries (the Ram), Andromeda (the Princess), Cassiopeia (the Seated Queen), Perseus (the Hero), Auriga (the Charioteer), and Taurus (the Bull).

Volunteers will set up a variety of kinds and sizes of telescopes on the winding sidewalks, and guests are welcome to use them or may bring their own binoculars and scopes as well. The presentation is very casual, so come at any time and leave when you wish. Bring a red flashlight to preserve night vision.

The Wall Bridge on I-10 Palms Springs

The Wall Bridge on I-10 Palms Springs

Run For The Wall: Wednesday, May 16 2018

It’s time again for the Run For The Wall, and again we will be there to support the riders.  THIS IS THE 30TH YEAR FOR THE RUN….  They are expecting this to be the largest turnout ever.  Let’s make this the largest turn out on the  Wall Bridge also…

You are invited to show your support on Wednesday, May 16 for the 552+ Southern CA riders who’ll make the long journey to the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. to honor our Fallen Veterans.

This event is is for everyone, not just bikers (the last couple years, the turnout was about 50/50). Join them on the Wall Bridge in North Palm Springs. Every year more and more people turn out for this sendoff. The last two years, supporters lined the whole bridge, end to end…and in some places were doubled up.

The Wall Bridge spans I-10 near the wind farms. The best way to get there is to take either the North or South frontage roads west from Indian Avenue about 1 mile to the bridge. (You can’t miss it.) You should arrive around 8:00 a.m. on Wed. May 16.   It can be windy & cool, so dress in layers.

Thanks to the Cathedral City Rotary Club and the Healing Fields Project, as they will be providing flags for everyone who comes out.
NOTE: If you are a member of a Veterans, Biker or Military Club or Origination , please forward this to your members and post it on your website.
If you have any questions, please call Amy Broich at 760.902.3761 or Tuck Broich at 760.413.1100.
