Kennedy (JFK) was assassinated on November 22, 1963.  Had he lived he would have been 100 years old this year, 2017.   As one of America’s most beloved President’s, his death left an indelible mark upon the consciousness of the United States.  Patrick Stanley’s play examines the lives of five Americans who lived through his assassination and reflects upon the  influence of his death on their lives.  Set in Manhattan, in 1974, Kennedy’s Children takes a diverse look at the events of the 1960’s including the civil rights movement, the Vietnam war and the women’s movement.  Eleven years and so many deaths later, what did it all mean, not politically, but personally. And more importantly, where were you when the shots were fired?

    SKY’S THE LIMIT OCTOBER 14 EVENT – 2017

Saturday, October 14 at Sky’s The Limit:

    Celestial Harvest

Sky’s The Limit Observatory and Nature Center invites stargazers to enjoy the desert night sky on Saturday, October 14This free public event begins at 7:00 pmand ends around 11:00 pm. The Observatory is at 9697 Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms, just outside the main (north) entrance to Joshua Tree National Park.

The heart of the summer Milky Way and Saturn are now on their downward turn toward the horizon, so use this opportunity to get a good look at the summer showpieces. We will also observe the faint, icy outer planets Neptune and Uranus for some of the best views of the year. Through our telescopes, Uranus and Neptune appear as small blue-green disks.

Prominent constellations are Pegasus (the Winged Horse), Cassiopeia (the Seated Queen), Aquila (the Eagle), Delphinus(the Dolphin), Lyra (the Harp), and Cygnus (the Swan).

Volunteers will set up a variety of kinds and sizes of telescopes on the winding sidewalks, and guests are welcome to use them or may bring their own binoculars and scopes as well. The presentation is very casual, so come at any time and leave when you wish. Bring a red flashlight to preserve night vision.

The campus is always open, so arrive around sunset to allow time to visit other educational attractions before the cosmic tour begins at dark. Dress for unpredictable desert weather and bring snacks, water bottles, and chairs.

Adults must accompany and take responsibility for the safety and behavior of children under 16. No pets, no smoking or alcohol allowed on the STL campus, and visitors must carry out all trash.

The seasonal sky is very unpredictable and a viewing event may have to be delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled due to cloudiness, rain, or excessive wind.  Check Sky’s The Limit Facebook Page or follow @STL29Palms to learn the latest status of an event, or call Steve at (760) 401-3004.

For more information and to see photos taken through STL’s 14” Celestron Schmidt–Cassegrain telescope, visit the STL web site at www.skysthelimit29.org. STL is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Donations to support Sky’s The Limit’s educational programs are gratefully accepted.

    SKY’S THE LIMIT OCTOBER 28 EVENT – 2017

Saturday, October 28 at Sky’s The Limit:

    Deep Sky Highlights

Sky’s The Limit Observatory and Nature Center invites stargazers to enjoy the desert night sky on Saturday, October 28. This free public event begins at 5:30 pm and ends around 9:00 pm. The Observatory is at 9697 Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms, just outside the main (north) entrance to Joshua Tree National Park.

Take a tour of the best cosmic wonders in the early winter sky: two remarkable galaxies in the constellations of Andromeda and Sculptor, the Double Cluster in Perseus, the Owl Cluster in Cassiopeia, and the well-known Pleiades star cluster in Taurus.

Also visible are Uranus, Neptune, and the dazzling multi-colored double star Almach in the constellation Andromeda.

Prominent constellations are Andromeda (the Princess), Pegasus (the Winged Horse), Cassiopeia (the Seated Queen), Aquila (the Eagle), Lyra (the Harp), and Cygnus (the Swan).

There are no overnight stays and NO CAMPING anywhere on the Observatory and Nature Center property. No pets, no smoking or alcohol allowed, and visitors must carry out all trash. Adults must accompany and take responsibility for the safety and behavior of children under 16.
