WE REVIEW “THE ODD COUPLE” AT THEATRE 29

The comedy “The Odd Couple” opened the Theatre 29 2018 season last weekend to enthusiastic crowds. Reporter Rebecca Havely was there and offers this review of the production…
Director Katie Fleischman couldn’t go wrong with Neil Simon’s Tony Award-winning comedy, “The Odd Couple,” as the first 2018 production at Theatre 29. She chose to set the classic in the present day to make it more relatable. The odd couple are a pair of poker buddies who become roommates. Kevin Myers plays Oscar Madison, a sloppy sports writer. Fairly new to the theater scene, Myers has a comfortable realistic quality that he brings to his role. Chris Fleishman plays the fastidious Felix Unger with vigor. He’s a compulsive neat freak with a slew of ailments and hysterical symptoms that eventually drive the laidback Oscar berserk. Their gang of poker buddies adds to the fun, as do their neighbors, the Pigeon sisters who are pleasantly played by Kegan Longuevan and Brandy Thiers.
“The Odd Couple” will run weekends through February 4; Friday and Saturday nights at 7 and Sunday matinees at 2:30. Tickets are $15. General admission is $12 for military, seniors and students with ID. For tickets, visit theatre29.org or call the Theatre 29 Box Office at 760-361-4151.
