WE MEET THE TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES

Four candidates are running for the two seats up on the Twentynine Palms City Council. Reporter David Haldane highlights some of the things the candidates agree—and disagree—about…

Economic development. That’s the catchword in Twentynine Palms these days, and the city council race reflects it. All four candidates say they favor Project Phoenix and will help marshal it to completion. Beyond that, however, there are differences.

Joel Klink, the only incumbent, emphasizes wastewater treatment and public safety. Among his priorities: maintaining roads and providing safe routes to schools.

Steven Bilderain wants to market the city’s entrance to Joshua Tree National Park and provide programs for teens. Jim Krushat promises to support the artistic community and maintain good relations with the local marine base. And Ken King says he supports seniors, would look into increasing tax revenues and wonders whether the city really needs to grow.

Only two of the hopefuls will be elected in November.
