WATCH FOR HEAT STROKE DURING THIS EARLY SPRING HEAT WAVE

We’re in the midst of a heat wave. Heat waves are common in the Morongo Basin and heat stress injuries are ever present. Reporter Rebecca Havely tells you how to spot the signs of heat stress…

Long exposure to high heat can result in heat stress some warning signs of a person suffering from heat stress include: profuse sweating, nausea, cramping, high body temperature and exhaustion. Heat stress is a serious medical condition and if left unchecked can progress to heat stroke and may even result in death. Heat stroke occurs when the bodies cooling system fails. Prolonged heat stress can be fatal to anyone but those over age sixty suffer the highest risk of death. Use common sense during heat waves to stay hydrated and keep cool. Drink two to five times more water than usual. If you suspect heat stress getting the victim medical help is urgent.
