TWO INJURED IN ROLL-OVER CRASH ON STATE ROUTE 247 IN LANDERS

Two Landers residents received minor injuries Tuesday during a roll-over crash when they were rear-ended on State Route 247 in Landers. The California Highway Patrol said Miguel Garcia, 64, was driving a 2001 Chevy Tracker northbound on 247 about 3 p.m. As Garcia approached the intersection of Encantado Road, the CHP said he slowed down, signaled his left turn, and moved into the southbound lane to make the turn. Two vehicles behind him was James Greensweight, 66, of Johnson Valley, driving a 2013 Chevy Silverado. Greensweight moved into the southbound lane to pass the vehicle in between his truck and Garcia’s SUV, not realizing that Garcia was also in the southbound lane making a left turn. The front of Greensweight’s truck collided with the rear of Garcia’s Tracker, causing the SUV to overturn and land on its roof in the middle of Encantado Road. Garcia and his passenger, Maria Garcia, 50, were trapped inside their vehicle and had to be rescued by firefighters. They received minor injuries and were taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. Greensweight and his passenger, 58-year-old Cindi Greensweight, complained of pain but refused to be taken to the hospital.
