TWO CASES OF BUYING CARS WITH STOLEN CHECKS AND FALSE ID UNDER INVESTIGATION

The Sheriff’s Department is investigating at least two cases in which a suspect used stolen checks and false identification to buy a vehicle. According to a Sheriff’s report, residents in the 5800 block of Bagley Avenue and 6300 block of Ocotillo Avenue in Twentynine Palms reported Thursday that their vehicles had been stolen. One owner sold a BMW for $4600 and the other sold another vehicle for $5,950. Both owners reported the checks were fraudulent and one owner said the identification presented with the check had been stolen. It’s unclear if the same suspect stole both vehicles. Anyone with information should call the Sheriff’s Department at 760-366-4175.
