TWO ARRESTED AFTER TRYING TO REGISTER A STOLEN CAR

Two people were arrested Thursday, accused of trying to register a stolen vehicle. According to a Sheriff’s report, Amber Long, 33, and Kurt Hampton, 33, went to the Department of Motor Vehicles in Twentynine Palms about 11 a.m. to register a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix. The DMV clerk determined the car had been reported stolen and called the Sheriff’s Department. Long and Hampton told the deputy that the car had been parked in front of their home in the 7300 block of Kellogg Avenue in Twentynine Palms. During the investigation, the deputy located two motorcycles that had also been reported stolen, as well as stolen tools, collectibles, air compressor, and more. Amber Long and Kurt Hampton were arrested for investigation of possession of stolen vehicles and receiving stolen property, booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with Long’s bail set at $60,000 and Hampton’s bail set at $75,000.
