TWO ARRESTED AFTER FAILURE TO YIELD AND FOOT PURSUIT

Two Twentynine Palms men were arrested Wednesday following a brief foot pursuit. According to the Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Wayne Greer was patrolling near Indian Trail and Morongo Road about 2 p.m. when he saw a green Camaro traveling eastbound on Indian Trail at more than 70 miles per hour. When Greer attempted to stop the Camaro for speeding near La Buena Tierra and Indian Trail, the passenger, later identified as Christopher Jonas, 18, jumped out of the moving car and fled through the open desert. Deputies tracked Jonas in the extreme heat to his brother’s home in the 73200 block of Valle Vista Road, about 1 ½ miles away from the location of the traffic stop. Christopher Jonas and the car’s driver, Brian Huff, 19, were arrested for investigation of resisting arrest. Brian Huff was cited and released. Jonas was also wanted by the county’s probation department for violation of probation and is being held without bail at the Morongo Basin Jail.
